The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the District Administrative Conference Room.
Trustees present were Kyle Berry, Edward Bethea, Vanessa Harrison, Linda James, Betty Jo Johnson, and Eleanor Powers. Eddie Watson was absent.
Betty Jo Johnson welcomed all present and Dr. Kirby opened with prayer.
Chair Johnson ruled t amend the current agenda and postpone the swearing in of a new trustee and Board Officer elections until the August board meeting.
Coach Stephanie Ard was recognized and congratulated for winning the 2015 State A Girls Softball Championship.
Coach Donald Cribb was recognized and congratulated for winning the 2015 State A Boys Baseball Championship.
Martha Heyward introduced the Teachers of the Year. Elizabeth Snipes was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta Elementary School. Melanie Solter was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta Middle School. Susan Bryson was recognized as teacher of the year for Latta High School.
Chair Johnson on behalf of the Latta School Board thanked Martha Heyward for her years of service in the Latta School District.
There being no corrections or additions to the May 12, 2015 minutes and the remaining agenda, Chair Johnson ruled that they stand approved.

OLD BUSINESS
Dr. Kirby updated board members on the need to have a board retreat.

DEPARTMENTAL
BUSINESS
Donna Taylor presented the status report for April 2015 on the General Fund budget.
A motion was made by Edward Bethea and seconded by Kyle Berry to approve the second reading of the 2015-2016 school year general operations budget as presented by Donna Taylor. Vote was unanimous.
Esther Rogers updated the Board on the required summer program as part of the Read to Succeed Act at Latta Elementary School.
Esther Rogers congratulated Latta High School for being awarded national ranking of a bronze medal by US News and World Report.
Preliminary end of course test results were presented b Esther Rogers.
Chair Johnson on behalf of the Latta School Board thanked Esther Rogers for her years of service in the Latta School District.
Larry Legette gave an update on school facilities and major summer projects.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on the Capital Improvement Plan.
A motion to approve the first five items on the capital improvement plan pending funding available was made by Kyle Berry and seconded by Vanessa Harrison. Vote was unanimous.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Edward Bethea and seconded by Linda James. Vote was unanimous.
