Both Dillon and Latta teams and the Lady Wild Gators earned wins on Saturday to advance to district title games, but the Lake View boys fell 6-3 to Bamberg-Ehrhardt and now face elimination.
SOFTBALL
In Class A softball action, Latta’s Lady Vikings hosted Branchville for an 18-0 win. Dori Webster gave up one hit in the win on the mound, and Madison Owens went 4-for-4 at bat with a home run, two triples, a double, and five RBI.
The Lady Vikings will host the winner of Monday night’s elimination game between Timmonsville and Branchville on Wednesday, May 6, for the District VIII title.
In District V, Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators defeated Bamberg-Ehrhardt 4-1 to advance to the district title game. Marissa Tyndall pitched a complete game and gave up just three hits and one walk, striking out 11, and also hit a home run at bat, getting two hits with two RBI.
On Wednesday, Lake View will host the winner of Monday’s elimination game between Bamberg-Ehrhardt and the Burke/Scott’s Branch winner for the District V title.
In Class 2A, Dillon’s Lady Wildcats traveled to Barnwell for a 14-0 win with Shaquailla German allowing just three walks and one hit by pitch in five innings, striking out 12 batters. Erin Bailey led the Lady Cats at bat, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple, and five RBI.
Dillon will host the winner of Monday night’s elimination game between Timberland and Barnwell on Wednesday for the Class 2A, District 5 title.
BASEBALL
In Class A, District VIII, Latta hosted Branchville for a 7-0 win over the Yellow Jackets with John Kever Love earning the win on the mound with two hits, two walks, and 10 outs. Eric McGirt went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and two RBI in the win.
Latta will host the winner of Monday’s elimination game between Branchville and the Scott’s Branch/Military Magnet winner on Wednesday for the District VIII title.
Lake View was the only local team to fall on Saturday, taking a 6-3 loss from Bamberg-Ehrhardt. The Red Raiders advanced to the District 5 title game, while the Gators will face elimination against Timmonsville tonight.
In Class 2A, the Dillon Wildcats earned a come-from-behind 9-7 win over the Academic Magnet Raptors, trailing 6-2 for most of the game before breaking loose for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Austin Moody and Rae Rae McGirt combined for 10 hits, four walks, and seven outs in the win. Dekencrick Graves went 2-for-3 with a double to lead at bat.
The Wildcats will host the District VIII title game on Wednesday against the winner of Monday’s elimination game between Academic Magnet and the winner of the Kingstree/Woodland game.
