Kendra Smith, a Dillon native now of Florence, has won a Stellar award for Youth Project of the Year.
This is the 30th year of the Stellar awards, which is considered the equivalent of a Grammy in gospel music, according to Kendra’s father, Kenneth Smith.
Smith received her award in Las Vegas at a program that featured acts such as Destiny’s Child.
Smith, who walked the red carpet, received her award in the pre-show portion and made a speech. Smith said she was excited and nervous.
The 18-year-old said it is an honor to receive this award. She said it was an amazing experience.
Smith, who graduates this year, wasnt to go to college and tour. She would like to become a speech or physical therapist and incorporate music into the therapy.
Smith has a new single coming out in June. She will be traveling to France this summer and has a tour in preparation so she has a great deal happening at this time.
