The Lady Warriors of Dillon Christian School traveled to Florence on Tuesday for a region game with the Florence Christian School Lady Eagles. The Eagles got away with a 12-11 win but in the end it was anybody’s game.

Dillon Christian got down early and trailed 8-0 at the end of three innings. The Warriors picked up two runs in the top of the fourth but gave the Eagles two back to trail 10-2. The Warriors added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, keeping the Eagles off the board, and found themselves trailing the Eagles 10-4.

The Warriors went crazy in the top of the sixth inning, bringing in seven runs and taking an 11-10 lead, holding this lead at the close of the inning. The umpires discussed calling the game due to low light issues but the Eagle coach protested bitterly and the game continued.

The Warriors were kept off the board in the top of the seventh and by the bottom of the inning the light conditions were bordering dangerous and resulted in some mistakes that could be attributed to these conditions, allowing the Eagles two unearned runs for the 12-11 win.

Coaches Norm Norton and Danny Ellis praised every player on the team for an outstanding game and noted exceptional play on defense by Madison King and Ansley Hamer in the outfield with Samantha Carpenter at shortstop, Emilie Martin at catcher, Sara Bass at third base, and Jamie Carpenter on the pitcher’s mound. The coaches praised all the players for their batting which produced 14 hits and 11 runs and made the Eagles change pitchers four times.

On the mound for the Eagles, Tori Alexander pitched the first four innings and was brought back in the seventh to close the game, getting the win. Brooke Brown pitched to 13 batters in one and a half innings and Kacy Medlin faced three batters in a half inning.

On the mound for the Warriors, Jamie Carpenter posted two strikeouts with two walked batters and one batter to base on a hit by a pitch, and allowed 10 hits with 12 runs scored in seven full innings on the mound for the loss.

At bat for the Eagles, Tori Alexander was 3-for-5 with three RBI; Carlie Rogers was 2-for-4 with two RBI; Lindsay Miller was 2-for-4 with one RBI; Madison Warner was 1-for-3 with a stolen base; Kacy Medlin was 1-for-4; Mary Waldrop was 1-for-4; and Brooke Brown got two RBI on two fielding errors.

At bat for the Warriors, Emilie Martin was 3-for-4 with one RBI; Jamie Carpenter was 2-for-3 with three RBI; Hannah Walters was 2-for-5 with two RBI; Erin Hamer was 2-for-5; Madison Moody was 1-for-1 with a stolen base; Samantha Carpenter was 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases; Madison King was 1-for-4 with two RBI; Myra Bracey was 1-for-3; Ansley Hamer was 1-for-5 with a double, a fielder’s choice, and three RBI; and Sara Bass made it two base on two walks and a hit by a pitch.

The Warriors will be at home today to host Emmanuel Baptist with game time set for 5:00 p.m. and on Friday, the Warriors will travel to Tatum for a game with Marlboro Academy with game time set for 5:00 p.m.
