The last of Region 8’s Class A and Class 2A teams were eliminated from the boys basketball playoffs this week.

In Class A, Latta was eliminated by Timmonsville in round one, and the Whirlwinds proceeded to edge Denmark-Olar 78-76 to advance to the lower state semi-finals.

Hannah-Pamplico eliminated Creek Bridge in the first round and defeated Cross 78-58 to advance. The Raiders were scheduled to host the Whirlwinds on Tuesday.

Carvers Bay fell to C.E. Murray in the first round, and Allendale-Fairfax defeated C.E. Murray 62-56 to advance.

Hemingway, the only Region 8-A team to advance through the first round, fell 77-76 to Burke in round two. Burke was scheduled to travel to Allendale-Fairfax on Wednesday.

In Class 2A, the Dillon Wildcats were the only Region 8-2A team to advance through the first round. Waccamaw fell to Lee Central, Aynor fell to Timberland, and Kingstree upset Mullins 89-87.

Dillon fell to Ridgeland-Hardeeville in the second round, and Battery Creek knocked off Lee Central to advance. The two teams were set to face each other at Estill High School on Wednesday.

Timberland defeated Garrett to advance to the semi-finals, and Whale Branch took down Kingstree 83-74 to advance.

The Class A and Class 2A lower state championships are scheduled for Saturday, February 28, at the Florence Civic Center.
