Latta’s Lady Vikings defeated the Creek Bridge Warriors 58-22 on the road on Friday night in girls varsity basketball action.
Latta took a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and outpaced the Warriors 23-12 in the second before shutting them out 14-0 in the third. The Lady Vikings capped the win with a 9-5 fourth quarter.
TaKeria Legette led all scorers with a game-high 29 points., and Mallory Townsend added 11 points for the Vikings in the win. Madelia Johnson scored 6 points; Maya Wright, 3; Iyonna McKenzie, 2; Margaret Desser, 2; Ke’asia Delrey, 2; Riana Green, 2; and Dasha Burdsall, 1.
Danielle Gouse led Creek Bridge with seven points; Coogler, 5; Briscoe, 4; and Griffin, 2.
The Vikings remain undefeated at 6-0 in Region 8-A and improved to 11-3 overall.
The defending state champs were ranked third last week in the Class A girls basketball polls, but defeated the second ranked Carvers Bay Bears 61-51 on Tuesday night. Latta also has some of the strongest scoring in the area with Legette averaging 20.9 points a game and Townsend averaging 14.2.
The Lady Vikings will be at home tonight to host Lake View and on Friday to host Green Sea Floyds, with game times set for 6:00 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
Next week, the Vikings will be on the road to wrap up the regular season against Carvers Bay on Tuesday and Hemingway on Thursday.
