Services for Mr. Lila Stanton McColl, 92, cotton farmer, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Carolina Presbyterian Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was at the family home on Glasdrum Farms, 4229 Glasdrum Drive, Little Rock, S.C. on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home, Bennettsville, is assisting the family. The family will also be in the Carolina Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall after the service. Mr. McColl died peacefully Friday, December 19, 2014, surrounded by his family. Mr. McColl was born on July 23, 1922, in Clio, a son of the late Lila S. McColl and Helon Stanton McColl. He graduated from Clio High School and worked for the Georgia Air Service. He was drafted into the Army Air Force in 1942 and served in the Southwest Pacific, attaining the rank of T. Sergeant. He was an aerial engineer on B-24’s and was a member of the 380 Bomb Group, 528th Squad. After World War II ended, he began a farming operation which he continued until his retirement on Friday. The family farm grew into Glasdrum Farms and now is operated by his sons and grandsons.
A resident of Dillon County since 1949, he served as Trustee with the Dillon District Two schools, on the Dillon County Agricultural Stabilization Board, and was a Past Master of Aurora Lodge. He was also a Shriner. As a member of the Dillon Kiwanis Club, he coached many young men, including his three sons, in baseball. He was an Elder of Carolina Presbyterian Church and teacher of the Men’s Sunday School Class. In 1963, he won the Ford Efficiency Award for cotton production.
Mr. McColl is survived by his wife of 68 years, Violet McInnis McColl, one daughter, Mary McColl McDaniel, (Tommy), and three sons, Nick T. McColl, James L. McColl, (Terry), John W. McColl, (Pam) and the following grandchildren, Tally McColl, (Kelly), Matthew McColl, (Amy), Kathleen McDaniel, Emily Stonerock, (Chuck), Melissa Perritt, (David), Jessica Renwick, (Jonathan) and Mason McColl. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Dawson and Hayden Perritt, Landry and Garret Collins, Eli McColl, Violet Renwick, and Stanton and Meredith Stonerock. He is also survived by his loving sister, Grace McColl Gibson, of Clio, SC.
