The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club held its regular meeting at the home of LaRue Bracey October 7, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. The members entered the dining room where they enjoyed a delicious meal. Cathy McDaniel, President, asked the blessing. There were nine people present.

After the meal, the members gathered in the living room. Cathy McDaniel, President, called the meeting to order and had the devotion. Cathy then turned the program over to the guest speaker, Diana Haimerl.

Diana is Coastal District Chairman of the GCSC & GCSC Logo Sales Chairman; she had a very interesting program. October is breast cancer awareness month, and the topic of the program was “Plant it Pink.” Plant it Pink is a partnership between NGC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This project demonstrates how a love of gardening can be translated into a full spectrum of projects that benefit the health and well-being of individuals, families, communities, and our state. Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end cancer forever. In 1982 that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Garden Clubs can participate by selecting activities promoting awareness of the fight against breast cancer.

Mildred Mishue, secretary, called the roll with each member naming their favorite “pink” cultivar. Mildred then read the minutes from the last meeting. Earline Moody, treasurer, gave her report. Each member was heard from. LaRue Bracey, chair person of Project and Litter, set a work day at the Mini-Park #9 for October 14th at 9:00 a.m.

The Yellow Jessamine Garden Club had a new member to join, Diane Pittman. Diane was welcomed into the club by each member present.

Three members attended the fall Coastal District Meeting at Conway in September. They were Cathy McDaniel, LaRue Bracey, and Mary Ricks.

The Yellow Jessamine Club is responsible for Arbor Day, December 5, 2014.

The beautiful flower arrangement consisted of ivy, red maple leaves, golden rods, and nandina. The door prize was won by Diana Haimerl. The next meeting will be at the home of Mildred Mishue Tuesday, November 4.
