Tracey Campbell, RN, a nurse in Women’s Services at McLeod Medical Center Dillon, received the 2014 Regional Perinatal Award from the South Carolina Perinatal Association on September 29, 2014, at the Annual Membership Meeting during the South Carolina Perinatal Association /North Carolina Perinatal Association Perinatal Partnership Conference.
This award is given to honor an individual or group in the Pee Dee Perinatal Region who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to enhancing services and resources and has successfully implemented strategies to improve the health of pregnant women and/or their infants within the Pee Dee Perinatal Region.
“Tracy was recognized because she is someone who goes the extra mile for mothers and babies – through direct patient care, education, and advocacy,” said Pat Jones, Director of Women’s Services at McLeod Dillon.
For the past 17 years Tracey has devoted much of her time to the care of the mothers and babies that come to McLeod Dillon. “She has been instrumental in orienting many new nurses and showing them how to go the extra mile in caring for our mothers and newborns. She leaves a lasting impression on the patients that she cares for and is often asked for by name when a mother comes to Dillon to deliver their second child,” said Pat.
“Year after year Tracey coordinates the biannual Early Pregnancy Celebration for McLeod Dillon for expectant moms, including the spring 2014 event where the Honorable Governor Nikki Haley was the guest speaker,” added Pat.
Tracey has taken a lead in the 39 week national March of Dimes initiative for McLeod Dillon. In this work, the medical center has been very successful in eliminating elective deliveries prior to 39 weeks.
Tracey is also taking a lead role in helping McLeod Dillon obtain baby friendly status, another national best practice.
Supporting healthy moms and babies, Tracey works diligently with the McLeod Dillon March of Dimes team’s fundraising efforts which help fund programs of research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies.
“Her connection with patients is memorable,” said Pat. “She strives for service excellence using best practices such as hourly rounding, communication boards to keep her patients informed and a bedside shift reporting.”
“Tracey has been a key player in the Make it Special project that offers a memorable experience to moms giving birth at McLeod Dillon,” said Pat. “Most importantly, Tracey takes the time to make sure that parents feel confident they can take care of their baby once they are discharged. She works to incorporate the entire family, knowing that the delivery is a family event. Tracey encourages mothers to know their options and make informed decisions. She is always available to answer any questions that her patient’s have so that they are prepared for discharge.”
Tracey has also been the recipient of the Merit Award at McLeod Dillon, recognizing her for consistently exceeding the values of McLeod, as well as the SC Palmetto Gold Award which recognizes South Carolina’s top 100 nurses.
Established in 1977, the South Carolina Perinatal Association strives to improve the health of pregnant women, infants and children through education activities and collaboration and advocacy with public policy makers.
Tracey and her husband, Scott, live in Dillon and have one child, Bryant. She is a member of the SC Perinatal Association.
