Friends,
It is with great interest that I have read information concerning the preservation of the existing J.V. Martin Auditorium. This structure has served the Dillon community as a venue for lectures, military ceremonies, musical concerts, and other cultural events. School and civic groups were fortunate to be able to perform on the full scale stage in a building that could seat an audience of 1100 people. In my 30 years as the Dillon High School Band Director the band presented over 60 concerts in the auditorium involving thousands of Dillon students and their families.
It is gratifying to know the J.V. Martin Auditorium has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places; however, after the many years of use, multiple repairs are needed to return this fine “Old Lady” to former beauty and usefulness. We currently have a once in a lifetime opportunity to reopen the auditorium doors as a legacy for generations to come. I urge the Dillon Community to bring our rich cultural past to the future by supporting the auditorium restoration today.
Warmest regards,
