Florence Post 1 continued a successful season of American Legion baseball, earning a regular season wins and going undefeated in the Palmetto Legion Invitational.
The tournament featured 20 teams playing at four different sites, with several local players on the Post 1 team.
Latta’s John Kever Love pitched 8.3 innings and struck out a season-high nine batters against Whiteville, North Carolina, as Post 1 earned a 4-1 win. Love allowed one unearned run and two hits, and Dillon’s Weston Bailey had two hits in the win.
On Thursday, Post 1 picked up a 14-2 win over JB Yeager Post 159 from Cincinnati, OH. Latta’s Jackson Williams had a grand slam for Post 1 and Cal Butler had a 3-run homer. Williams had six RBI in the win, and Bailey added two hits for Florence.
Post 1 defeated Jacksonville, NC, and Chicopee, Massachusetts, on Saturday in come from behind wins. Florence capped the tournament with an unbeaten record on Sunday as they downed Potomac, WV, 13-3. Bailey had two hits in the win.
Post 1 also defeated Hartsville 9-8 on Tuesday night for a 24-3 record. Florence was scheduled to finish up the regular season this week with games against Manning and Sumter.
