The Latta Vikings defeated the Lake View Wild Gators 11-1 in five innings on Friday night in varsity baseball action.

Latta scored two runs in the bottom of the second and added three in the third, and four in the fourth for a 9-0 lead. Lake View scored their lone run in the top of the fifth but Latta sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Latta’s Travis Power earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings for just one hit, one run, and four walks, striking out five. Lake View’s Brent Herlong took the loss, pitching five innings for five hits, three runs, one earned run, two walks, and four outs.

Power also went 2-for-3 with two RBI at bat to help lead Latta. Donell Stanley and Eric McGirt each homered and both went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Christian Hendrix went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and Jackson Williams went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Latta had 14 hits in the win.

Latta improved to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in the region for first place in Region 8-A. Lake View finished third with a 10-4 record overall and a 6-4 record in the region.

The Vikings were scheduled to travel to Mullins on Monday night and will host Hemingway in the first round of the District VIII playoffs on Thursday night.

Lake View was scheduled to travel to South Robeson on Monday and will be on the road to face Carvers Bay on Thursday in the first round of the District VI playoffs.
