Latta’s Lady Vikings earned an 8-1 win over the visiting Green Sea-Floyds Trojans on Friday, April 11, in varsity softball action.
The Lady Vikings took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and increased it to 8-0 with two runs each in the fourth and sixth. Green Sea-Floyds scored their only run in the top of the seventh.
Latta’s Anna Rogers got the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings for the Vikings, striking out 11 and and allowing just one hit, one run, and two walks.
Cora Owns led the Vikings at bat, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI on a two-run homer. Dori Webster went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored, and Genesis Anderson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Lady Vikings improved to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in Region 8-A.
Latta will be away at Aynor tonight and will wrap up their regular season at home on Friday when they are scheduled to host Lake View at 5:30 p.m. While Johnsonville has already won the region, Latta currently leads Lake View for second place. But the Gators could take second with wins over Hannah-Pamplico on Tuesday and Latta on Friday.
