The Latta Vikings opened the regular season on Thursday night with a 9-5 win over Darlington and a 16-2 win over Mullins on Friday in varsity baseball action.

Darlington kicked things off Thursday night with four runs in the top of the first inning in Latta. But the Vikings earned three in the second to trail by one. The 3A Falcons picked up a run in the top of the second, but the Vikings added two in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-5. Latta held Darlington off for the rest of the game, picking up a run in the bottom of the third and three runs in the sixth to seal the win.

John Kever Love earned the win, pitching 5.3 innings and allowing two hits and three walks while striking out eight. Darlington’s K. Samuel pitched five innings for five runs, one earned run, seven hits, one walk, and four outs.

Latta’s Donell Stanley went 2-for-3 at bat with two runs and two RBI; John Kever Love went 2-for-4 with two RBI; and Christian Hendrix went 2-for-4. The Vikings had nine hits in the win.

Darlington was led by Revell and Mack, who both went 1-for-4 with a RBI. The Falcons had four hits in the effort.

On Friday, Latta hosted Mullins with the Auctioneers picking up two runs in the top of the first inning. But the Vikings shut down the Auctioneers for the rest of the game, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first and adding a run in the second to lead 4-2. The Vikings broke loose for 10 runs in the third, and added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to seal the win at 16-2.

Latta’s Jeremy Jenkins earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings for six hits, two runs, three walks, and four outs. Dylan Ard took the loss for Mullins, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing nine hits, 14 runs, seven earned runs and five walks while striking out one.

At bat for Latta, Jackson Williams went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Christian Hendrix went 4-for-4 with three RBI. The Vikings had 12 hits in the win.

Mullins was led by Atkinson and Burke, both 1-for-2 with a RBI. The Auctioneers had six hits in the loss.

Latta starts the season with a 2-0 record. The Vikings will travel to Hannah-Pamplico tonight to open region play and will be at Johnsonville on Friday night.
