Dillon junior varsity softball coach Donna Lane expects nothing but the best for the JV Lady Wildcats this season.

After finishing with a 15-1 record last season and losing only two players to varsity, Lane is enthusiastic about the team’s prospects. The team picked up Tori Grimsley as a pitcher and Ashley Grimsley as catcher, a key position that the JV Wildcats needed to fill.

“We have an excellent group of pitchers, including Tiffany Dwyer, Johnna Rogers, and Tori Grimsley,” she said. “And we expect good power from Brittany Miller and Ashley Phillips and good speed from A’Doshia Graves and Taylor Blackmon.”

The only area where Lane feels the Wildcats are lacking is the outfield.

Lane, now in her 12th year coaching and her 10th year as head coach for Dillon’s junior varsity team, expects their biggest challenge to come from Aynor this season.

“I expect us to keep improving,” she said, “and to prepare for the varsity level.”

The JV Wildcats will open the season at home on Tuesday, March 11, against Aynor.
