COLUMBIA, S.C. – Dorn VA Medical Center officials announced today an Open House for Veterans will be held here at the Dorn Auditorium on February 12 as part of the National Salute Week activities.
“We want to thank our Veterans for supporting us,” said Interim Director Maria Andrews, “and we want to provide Veterans in the community with access to valuable information about our VA programs during National Salute Week, including how to enroll in VA health benefits and how to take advantage of the tremendous health care opportunities VA affords.”
The Open House for Veterans will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and will include a tour of two of Dorn’s specialty clinics. The 15-minute tours begin promptly at 3:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 4:45 p.m., or 5:15 p.m.
A variety of information will be available for Veterans including: women’s care; military sexual trauma program; mental health programs; suicide prevention; VA research; Chaplain Services; audiology and speech; employment; dental programs; volunteer programs; homeless Veterans programs; cardiology; and more.
“As part of our National Salute Week activities, it is the perfect time to host the Open House for Veterans as the celebration held the week of February 14 each year is when we invite groups and individuals in to visit us,” said Andrews.
Dorn officials noted that flu shots will also be made available for Veterans.
“The flu is still extremely prevalent as South Carolina has experienced more than 26,000 lab-confirmed flu cases, with 1,329 hospitalizations and 49 confirmed deaths,” said Andrews. “We want to provide another opportunity for the flu vaccine to help protect our Veterans and their loved ones.”
