Latta’s Lady Vikings opened conference play with a 77-17 win over the visiting Creek Bridge Warriors on Tuesday night in girls varsity basketball action.

Latta took a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and held a 48-14 lead at the half. The Lady Vikings outscored the Warriors 29-3 in the second half to seal the win.

Playing at the point guard position, TaKeria Legette led the Vikings with a game-high 28 points, 14 assists, 10 rebounds, and six steals.

Jessica Evans added 19 points for the Vikings and Brittany Burgess earned 11. Mallory Townsend scored 7; Maya Wright, 4; Margaret Desser, 3; Iyonna McKenzie, 3; and Madelia Johnson, 2.

Creek Bridge was led by Shayla Graves with nine points. Akeya Lakin added five, with Jada Gause earning two and Whitney Green adding one point in the loss.

Latta improved to 6-3 overall and started conference play with a 1-0 record in Region 8-A.

The Lady Vikings, who were ranked fourth in last week’s polls, fell out of the top 10 this week after back-to-back non-conference losses to Dillon. But the Vikings are still the favorite in the region, and will travel tonight to face Green Sea-Floyds in their second region battle of the season.

Latta will be back home next Tuesday, January 21, to host Hannah-Pamplico, and on Friday, January 24, the Vikings will travel to Lake View to face the rival Gators. All games are set for 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local teams!
