Dillon’s Lady Wildcats defeated the South Robeson Mustangs 69-20 on Wednesday night before earning a 48-46 win over Latta with a last minute layup on Friday night.

The Wildcats took a 13-2 lead over South Robeson on Wednesday night in the first quarter, and led 26-10 at the half. Dillon outscored the Mustangs 43-10 in the second half to seal the win.

Tyshanna Lester led Dillon in the win with a game-high 22 points, and Yolanda Campbell added 15. Da’Kerhia Samuel earned 10 points; Khamele Manning, 9; Brianna Lee, 6; Kendra McLeod, 3; R. Colvin, 2; and Jelissa Fentzlaff, 2.

South Robeson was led by A’Terria Quick with 11 points; Savanna Hunt, 6; Kada Hunt, 2; and Kayala Rodgers, 1.

On Friday night, Dillon took a 20-11 lead over the Lady Vikings in the first quarter, but Latta rallied to outpace the Wildcats 17-8 in the second for a 28-28 tie at half time. The Wildcats pulled ahead with a 10-7 third and were leading 46-40 with just over a minute and a half on the clock when Latta’s Maya Wright hit a free throw and TaKeria Legette hit a three-pointer to cut the Wildcat lead to just two points.

Dillon’s Lester fouled, allowing Latta’s Brittney Burgess to sink two free throws to tie the game with just 17 seconds left. Lester took control of the ball again and slipped past the Viking defense to find Da’Kerhia Samuel ready and waiting under the basket. Samuel sank the layup with five seconds on the clock to give the Wildcats the 48-46 win and maintain their undefeated record this season.

Samuel scored a team-high 17 points for the Wildcats with Lester adding 12 and Campbell earning 10. Manning finished with six points in the win and Lee contributed three. Samuel also grabbed 11 rebounds, with Lester picking up seven and making three blocks, and Campbell grabbed 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Latta was led by Maya Wright with a game-high 18 points. TaKeria Legette added nine; Jessica Evans earned eight; Brittany Burgess scored six; and Mallory Townsend added five in the effort. Wright also picked up 10 rebounds for Latta.

Dillon improved to 13-0 while Latta slipped to 5-3.

In the latest coaches polls, Dillon was ranked third in the state in Class 2A basketball action, while Latta was ranked fourth in Class A. Fairfield Central and Bishop England topped the Class 2A poll, and Hemingway, Timmonsville, and Carvers Bay made up the top three in Class A.

Both Dillon and Latta will open up region play tonight with Dillon set to host Aynor and Latta scheduled to host Creek Bridge. Both games start at 6:00 p.m.
