Stewart Heights Elementary School held its 27th annual end-of-year talent show under the direction of Brian Lodge, music teacher.
The theme this year was “Pop Stars”.  The program highlighted a number of favorite popular songs from the radio and TV.  To open the show, Stewart Heights’ alumni sang several tunes to get the students in the groove.  Xzavier Williams, Brittney Moody, Marnija Lewis, Malaysia Farmer, Taylor Page, and Domminik Gist sang and danced to Rolling in the Deep, Call Me Maybe, and Better Keep Your Head Up.  After the opening act, Mr. Lodge introduced the judges for the show:  Mrs. Jayne Lee, Mrs. Robin Floyd, and Mrs. Kathy Smith.  He then introduced the thirty one third grade students who danced, sang, and/or played instruments for the students’ enjoyment.  After the sixteen acts concluded, the judges had the difficult job of choosing three overall winning acts.
While the judges were making their selections, the alumni singers performed two final songs, Dynamite and That’s What Makes You Beautiful.  The students really enjoyed the finale, as many of them sang along.  After the judges had made their selections, Mr. Lodge received the list of winners.  This year’s first place winner was Kelsey Jackson, Sinaayah Mathis, and Jada Reaves.  They sang a Carrie Underwood song called Good Girl.
Second place went to Edrionna Washington. She sang a sweet rendition of the song Take Me to the King. Third place winner was Lamya Fletcher.
The student body enjoyed singing along with her as she sang Break Every Chain.  The judges also recognized an Honorable Mention act.  Lo’Kendria Evans was recognized singing No One, an Alicia Keys song. Winners received trophies and checks.  All participants received certificates of recognition and pictures.
Special recognition went to Jane Reaves for decorating the stage area and Latasha Boatwright for assisting Mr. Lodge and the alumni with the choreography.
