Dillon’s Lady Wildcats won the District VIII title with a 10-0 win over Aynor on Thursday night, but fell 13-3 to Waccamaw on Friday in the first round of the Class AA lower state bracket.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats hosted Aynor and took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Dillon added nine runs in the bottom of the third to lead 10-0 and clinch the district title in five innings.
Shaquailla German got the win on the mound for Dillon, pitching all five innings and allowing just one hit and four walks while striking out eight. Shelby Culler took the loss for Aynor, pitching four innings for 11 hits, 10 runs, eight earned runs, three walks, and two outs.
Tara Grimsley led the Wildcats at bat, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Rebecca Callahan went 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and Shayna Covington went 2-for-4. Dillon had a total of 11 hits in the win.
On Friday, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Pawleys Island to face Waccamaw, and took a 13-3 loss from the Lady Warriors, who delivered Dillon’s only region loss in regular season play.
Waccamaw was led by Mackenzie Lugin, who picked up the win on the mound and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs at bat.
The Lady Wildcats, now 22-4, were scheduled to travel to Barnwell on Monday night for an elimination game in the loser bracket, while Waccamaw was set to travel to face Silver Bluff. If Dillon wins on Monday, they will face the loser of the Waccamaw/Silver Bluff game on Wednesday, while the winner of that game will continue on to the lower state championship game on Friday.
