The Latta Vikings dropped their first round game in the Class A softball playoffs, falling 5-1 to the East Clarendon Wolverines on Saturday.

East Clarendon got on the board in the second inning as the Wolverines scored on a missed ball by the catcher. Latta tied things up 1-1 in the third on a sacrifice bunt from Dori Webster that scored Tori Grimsley. But East Clarendon added two runs in th fourth to take a 3-1 lead, with Maggie Baird and Jordan Evans each getting an RBI for the Lady Wolverines. Wolverine pitcher Kaitlin Alexander struck out nine straight Viking batters between the fourth and seventh innings, and East Clarendon’s Kayleigh Hunter hit a double in the seventh to bring in two runners and seal the 5-1 win.

Kaitlin Alexander got the win for East Clarendon, pitching the complete game and allowing six hits and one run while striking out eight.

Anna Rogers took the loss for Latta, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, and four walks while striking out seven.

At bat for the Vikings, Tori Grimsley had two hits and one run scored. Dori Webster picked up Latta’s only RBI on her sacrifice bunt. The Vikings left nine runners on base in the game.

Grayson Smith led the Wolverines with two hits and Baird had an RBI single.

Latta was scheduled to host Green Sea-Floyds on Monday night in the loser bracket while Johnsonville will be at East Clarendon in the winner bracket. If Latta is successful on Monday night, the Lady Vikings will face the loser of the Johnsonville/East Clarendon game on Wednesday.
