The Latta Vikings defeated the Wild Gators 54-47 in Lake View on Thursday night in the regular season finale for both basketball teams.

Lake View took a 9-6 lead in the first quarter, but Latta went 14-9 in the second to lead 20-18 at the half. The Wild Gators took the lead in the third, outscoring the Vikings 14-9 for a 32-29 lead heading into the final quarter. But Latta rallied in the fourth, outpacing the Gators 25-15 to take home the win.

Tyrell Sabb led Latta with a game-high 30 points and Travise Kinney added 10 for the Vikings. Ty’Sean Burgess scored six, Ken’Che Page earned four, and Brandon Wilson and Quane’ Williams each scored two, with Darren Pernell adding one point in the win.

Michael Paige and Darius Leonard each scored 13 points to lead Lake view, with Chris Ford and Jamal Ford each adding seven. Corenthious Brunson contributed five points for the Wild Gators and Anthony Bines added two.

Latta finished the regular season with a 6-12 overall record and a 5-5 record in Region 8A for fourth place. Johnsonville finished first in the region, with Hannah-Pamplico in second and Green Sea-Floyds third.

Lake View wrapped up their season with a 3-13 overall record and a 1-9 record in the region.

The Vikings will travel tonight to face Carvers Bay in the first round of the Class A Lower State boys’ basketball playoffs. The Bears finished first in Region 7A with a 16-7 overall record and an 8-2 record in the region. The winner will move on to face the winner of Monday night’s game between Military Magnet and Estill on Friday.
