Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 60-35 win over the Lady Wild Gators in Lake View on Thursday to close out regular season girls’ basketball action for both teams.

Latta took a 22-4 lead in the first quarter and outscored Lake view 16-6 in the second to lead 38-10 at the half. The Lady Vikings went 9-7 in the third, and Lake View rallied for an 18-11 fourth, but Latta took home the win.

Mallory Townsend and Tianna Deberry each earned 12 points to lead Latta and Brittany Burgess added 10 points in the win. Jessica Evans earned nine, TaKeria Legette scored eight, Michia Johnson scored four, and Mya McDaniel and Kierra Johnson each scored two with Iyonna McKenzie adding one point for the Lady Vikings. Deberry and Legette each sank two three-pointers in the win.

Burgess and Legette each picked up seven rebounds and Michia Johnson grabbed six, with Deberry snagging five, and Townsend and Evans each grabbing three. Deberry made four steals, Burgess made three, Evans made one, and Legette record one block and two steals. Burgess made six assists for the Vikings and Deberry made five, with Townsend and Legette each assisting three times, Evans assisting twice, and McKenzie assisting once in the win.

Jasmine Ford led Lake View with a game-high 13 points and Olivia McDaniel scored 12. Kayla Sanderson earned four points and Junetta Strickland, Kayla Page, and Diayah Williams each added two.

Latta finished regular season play with a 17-2 overall record, with their only losses coming from Dillon’s Lady Wildcats in a non-conference meeting and from Scotland County in tournament action. The Lady Vikings are the uncontested champions in Region 8-A with an undefeated 10-0 record and were recently voted number one in the state in Class A girls basketball by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

Lake View wrapped up the regular season with a 5-12 overall record and a 4-6 record in the region for fourth place. The Lady Gators defeated Green Sea Floyds in both encounters and earned split the series with Creek Bridge and Hannah-Pamplico. The Lady Raiders took third place in the region, with Johnsonville finishing second.

Latta was scheduled to host Carvers Bay in the first round of the Class A Lower State playoffs on Monday night. The Bears finished fourth in Region 7A. The winner will move on to face either Denmark-Olar or St. John’s on Thursday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m.

Lake View was scheduled to travel to face Timmonsville on Monday night. The Lady Whirlwinds finished at the top of Region 7A and were consistently ranked in the top five in the state this season. The winner of Monday’s game will face the winner of Monday’s Estill at Baptist Hill game on Thursday night.
