The state volleyball championships were held on Saturday, November 3, in each class with St. Joseph’s claiming the Class A title and Bishop England claiming the Class AA championship.

After defeating both Latta and Lake View in the lower state Class A playoffs, Branchville defeated Johnsonville on Wednesday, October 31, to claim the lower state title. But the lady Yellow Jackets were swept 25-14, 25-6, and 25-17 by upper state champion St. Joseph’s. St. Joseph’s swept Fox Creek on Wednesday 25-8, 25-11, and 25-15 for the upper state title.

In Class AA, Waccamaw was swept 25-18, 25-13, and 25-11 by Bishop England in the lower state championship, while Chesnee swept Andrew Jackson 25-18, 25-11, and 25-12 in the upper state. On Saturday, Bishop England claimed the state crown once again, sweeping Chesnee 25-20, 25-12, and 25-19.

In Class AAA, North Myrtle Beach claimed the lower state title and Pickens took the upper state, but North Myrtle Beach claimed the state title 3-1 with scores of 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-9.

In Class AAAA, Aiken defeated Wando 3-2 for the lower state title while Hillcrest swept Rock Hill in the upper state. Hillcrest took the state title with a 3-1 win over Aiken with scores of 25-13, 14-25, 25-14, and 25-20.
