Dew (Dick) P. Richardson was recently given an award for “Many Years of Dedicated Service as a Dillon County Fireman and for serving as President of the Dillon County Fire Chiefs Association.”
Richardson served Latta Fire Department as a member for almost 50 years, 25 of those as chief.
“He is one of the most dedicated firemen I have ever known, “ said Larry Cox, president of the Dillon County Fire Chiefs Association. “When the pager sounded Dick almost always answered the call, you could count on him even if no one else showed up. This was not once in awhile but everyday for 25+ years.”
In 1995 when the Dillon County Fire Chiefs Association was formed, Richardson stepped up again and served as president for about 12 years.
Chief Richardson served the county until 2007 when he retired.
“We would like to thank Chief Richardson for his years of service and dedication,” Cox said.
