Seventy-five youth and their adult supervisors arrived at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon this past weekend to begin their sixth Salkehatchie Harvest Camp mission here, helping to repair and improve six houses of underprivileged families. They will be working diligently all of this week, and they will accomplish remarkable improvements for these families.
Previously the campers have been housed at Dillon High School, but, because of ongoing construction work there, they are staying at Main Street UMC. This arrangement required the rental of a twelve-stall shower trailer, now parked adjacent to the church’s Fellowship Hall.
“We want to thank the city and county officials for their generous cooperation in helping to make the needed preparation and facilities available for this project,” said Mary Bailey, MSUMC project chairman. “Without their help we could not have accommodated the campers this year. We also want to thank those who contributed generously to cover the added costs this encampment entailed.”
“Most of all, we want to thank the youth and adults who are here giving unselfishly of their time and effort for the underprivileged. Our community is truly blessed by their presence and their work.”
