I had a request this week for a good strawberry recipe. This is my favorite. My mother-in-law has been making this cake as long as I have known here and that is more than 40 years.
Strawberry Cake
1 package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup Wesson Oil
1/2 cup hot water
1 package strawberry Jello
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix cake mix with eggs and oil. Add Jello to hot water and mix. Mix in vanilla and salt. Bake in 3 cake pans at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Icing
1-package strawberries (10-oz.)
1-stick butter or margarine
1-box powdered sugar
red food coloring (optional)
Melt butter, add powdered sugar and strawberries and food color (if using). Mix well (icing will be running). Ice between layers on sides and top of cake. Keep refrigerated. Original called for half of strawberries in cake mix and half in frosting. But Bobbie Jean puts all strawberries in frosting.
