Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators fell 5-3 to East Clarendon’s Lady Wolverines in Wednesday’s District VII championship game.
Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third, when East Clarendon scored to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, they added two runs for a 3-0 lead, but the Wild Gators scored two in the top of the sixth to trail by just one point. East Clarendon widened the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the inning, and although the Lady Gators added one run in the top of the seventh, it wasn’t enough to pull out the win.
East Clarendon had 12 hits in the win, with Katelyn Alexander leading the way, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. East Clarendon’s Grayson Scott went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Kristen Godwin went 2-for-3, and Leslie Altman went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Wolverines had two errors in the win.
Lake View’s K.D. Cox went 1-for-3, Chelsea Spivey went 1-for-3 with a double; and Ashley Rogers went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
East Clarendon’s Brooklyn Fort picked up the win, pitching two innings for just one hit and two outs.
Kayla Sanderson took the loss for the Lady Gators, pitching six innings for 12 hits, five runs, four earned runs, two walks, and six outs.
Lake View wraps the 2012 season with an 11-12 overall record and a 4-6 record in Region 8A.
East Clarendon continued to Saturday’s first round of the Lower State playoffs, where they fell 5-1 to Green Sea-Floyds. The Wolverines will be taking on Johnsonville on Monday night in an elimination game.
