Dillon’s Lady Wildcats eliminated Swansea 10-1 on Wednesday to claim the District VIII softball title, and followed up with a 2-0 win over Andrews in the first round of the Lower State playoffs.
On Wednesday, Dillon scored their first run in the bottom of the second, and Swansea tied things 1-1 in the top of the third. But the Lady Wildcats added three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 4-1 lead, and added two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth for the 10-1 win.
Shaquailla German pitched all seven innings for the Wildcats, allowing just one hit and one earned run, with five walks and 11 outs. German’s record improves to 7-2 on the mound this season. Miranda Rogers took the loss for Swansea, pitching all six innings for 14 hits, 10 runs, seven earned runs, one walk, and five outs.
Da’Kerhia Samuel led the Wildcats at bat, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Ma’Kayla Drake went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Shayna Covington went 3-for-5 with an RBI; Tara Grimsley went 1-for-3; Rebecca Callahan went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI; Shaquailla German went 1-for-4 with an RBI; and Darby Hamer went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Dillon had a total of 14 hits in the win.
Hamer made five put out s and Price made two put out snad three assists in the field. Covington, Callahan, and German each put out one, and Covington and Dallas Rowell each made an assist.
Swansea’s Mack led the Tigers at bat, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. The Tigers had just one hit and three errors in the loss.
On Saturday, Dillon won its first round matchup in the Class AA Lower State tournament, defeating Andrews 2-0. Dillon scored both of their runs in the bottom in the third inning, with Rebecca Callahan scoring Shayna Covington and Tara Grimsley on a squeeze bunt.
Darby Hamer picked up the win for Dillon, pitching all seven innings for three hits, one walk, and four outs. Hamer is 10-0 on the mound for the Wildcats this season.
Madison Cooper took the loss for Andrews, pitching four innings for four hits, two earned runs, a walk, four outs, and a hit by pitch.
Covington led Dillon at bat, going 2-for-3, with Tara Grimsley going 1-for-2 and Rebecca Callahan going 1-for-3 with two RBI. Taylor Price and Da’Kerhia Samuel each went 2-for-3 for Dillon.
German made six putouts with Covington, Grimsley, and Callahan each making three and Samuel and Drake each making one. Taylor Price made three assists, with Hamer and Covington making two each and Rowell making one.
Andrews was led at bat by Julia Morris, who went 2-for-3, and Macey Morris who went 1-for-3. The Yellow Jackets had three hits and one error in the loss.
Dillon’s record improved to 24-2 as they headed into Monday night’s game against Hanahan. The winner will proceed to the Lower State Championship game on Friday, May 11, while the loser will host either Aynor or Andrews on Wednesday, May 9.
