Latta’s Lady Vikings started the season right on Tuesday, following up a 2-0 finish in the Latta Preseason Tournament with a 17-12 win over Johnsonville on Tuesday.
In the tournament, which was shortened due to the weather, Latta shut out Lake View 6-0 and defeated North Myrtle Beach 11-1.
Chelsea Welty led the Vikings offensively in the tournament, going 5-for-6 with three homers. Tori Grimsley and Anna Rogers both picked up wins on the mound for Latta.
Latta opened regular season play on Tuesday in Johnsonville with a 17-12 win over the Lady Flashes. The Vikings scored 10 runs in the third to take the win, getting 14 hits in the game.
The Vikings were led at the plate Chelsea Welty who went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, a double, and five RBIs. Dori Webster went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Macie Hyatt was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Raven Baxley went 2-for-4 with a double.
Tori Grimsley picked up her first regular season win, pitching five innings with only three earned runs.
Latta’s record is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 8A.
The Lady Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, March 13, when they travel to Carvers Bay to face the Bears at 5:30 p.m. in their next region matchup. On March 14, Latta will be in Lamar for a non-conference bout, and on Friday, March 16, the Lady Vikings will host Green Sea-Floyds.
BASEBALL
The Latta Vikings took on Johnsonville on Tuesday, but a lighting issue caused the game to be suspended. The blackout caused the game to be cut short in the bottom of the fourth with Johnsonville leading 5-3. The game will be replayed at a later date.
The Vikings take on Hannah-Pamplico tonight at home at 7:00 p.m.
