Dillon’s Lady Wildcats started the softball season on the right foot with a 7-5 win over West Florence on Tuesday.

Dillon had 12 hits and scoring one run in the first inning and three each in the second and seventh. The Knights scored one run each in the first, second, and sixth innings and added two in the seventh.

At bat, Shayna Covington went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base; Tara Grimsley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a SAC bunt, and 1 run scored; Rebecca Callahan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and four assists; Taylor Price went 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored, and a stolen base; Dallas Rowell went 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored; Darby Hamer was 1-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 1-for-1; and Shaquailla German picked up an RBI.

Left fielder Ma’Kayla Drake led defense with four POs, including a runner tring to advance from first to third on a bunt.

Darby Hamer picked up the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and facing 33 batters. She allowed 10 hits, five runs, and three earned runs, striking out six.

The Lady Wildcats are 1-0 in the regular season as they head to Loris tonight at 6:30 p.m. for their first match-up of the season.
