Why is it important to remain in school and get good grades?
What is the value of graduating from high school and then earning a degree from college? How will obtaining an education ensure a chance at a better life?
That is exactly what 7th and 8th grade students discussed at J.V. Martin Junior High School with two upstanding community members on January 6 who also went to school in Dillon.
Speaking with students were Mr. Buford McLaughlin and Judge James Lockemy. The guest speakers talked to students about their personal experiences when they were students in Dillon.
Students were reminded of former Dillon students who have also become successful citizens.
Students heard that they should take their talents and work hard to become whatever they desired in life.
They also were told about the importance of having a positive attitude toward whatever challenges they might face now and in the future.
J.V. Martin’s administration feels very fortunate to have had Mr. McLaughlin and Judge Lockemy as guest speakers. The discussions were informative as well as entertaining for the students.
That was apparent by the questions and applause from the students at the conclusion of the discussions.
