Latta’s Lady Vikings picked up their 12th win in a row on Tuesday as they downed the Johnsonville Flashes 67-58.
Latta got off to a strong 17-9 lead in the first quarter, but Johnsonville outscored the Lady Vikings 20-11 in the second to carry a 29-28 lead in the half. Latta reclaimed the lead in the third, charging into battle to outscore the Flashes 22-11 to carry a 10-point lead into the fourth. Johnsonville narrowly outscored Latta 18-17 in the fourth, still fell to the Vikings by nine points.
Ta’Keria Legette scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Viking charge, with Tianna Deberry adding 16 and Brittany Burgess earning 12. Jessica Evans and Jocelyn Vereen each scored seven points, and Maya Wright added five.
Keyarah Turner led Johnsonville with a game-high 19 points, followed by Crystal Williams with 14 and Khanyzah Weaver with 13. Gabby Boatwright and Machala Weaver each added three points for Johnsonville, and Nicole Hannah and Shanice Hamilton each contributed two.
Despite starting the season with five straight losses, the Lady Vikings have emerged at the top of Region 8A, winning every game since the beginning of 2012 for a 12-5 overall record and a 10-1 region record. Hemingway is close behind with a 10-1 record in the region and a 15-4 record overall. Both teams have one region game remaining.
Johnsonville finishes the regular season with a 13-5 overall record and an 8-4 region record for third place.
