When Dillon Christian School’s third and fourth graders set up their classroom Christmas tree, it was not ornaments of silver and gold that adorned the tree.
Instead, the tree was full of mittens, gloves, scarves, caps, and socks.
This may sound like an unusual way to decorate a Christmas tree.
However, decorating their tree with cold weather gear has become a tradition with the third and fourth grades.
The items were later delivered to Helping Hands of Dillon where they were distributed to needy children in our community.
According to Mrs. Dianne Cullum, third grade teacher, this is a project that will continue at DCS so others in our community can feel the warmth of spreading God’s love.
Homeroom teachers who helped with the project are Mrs. Kristin Alexander, Mrs. Dianne Cullum, Mrs. Lynn Hughes, and Mrs. Barbara McCall.

On Thursday, January 12, Dillon Christian School brought photographers and staff from ID Concepts, Inc. onto their campus for the kindergarten through sixth grade students.
ID Concepts provides a service for families where they generate an identification card for each child that features a color picture, vital statistics and information, a thumb print, and a lock of hair that is sealed into the card.
The purpose of the program is to keep an identification card for a child that is current and so that parents may have readily available accurate and helpful information for their children but also an item that can be distributed quickly to local authorities in the case of an emergency.
Head of School Brian Fitzgerald feels that “in this age of heightened vigilance and security concerning our society, especially our children, I felt that this was another opportunity that we could offer to our families to help them feel a greater degree of protection. All of the staff at Dillon Christian are completely committed to the safety of each child, and we continually do all that we can to maintain a setting in which a child can focus on learning. While we do enjoy a school environment free from many of the maladies that plague the nation, any measure that we can take to affirm our commitment to safety is necessary.”
