Matt Jordan received the Eagle Scout Award on Tuesday, December 20, at Dillon Main Street Methodist Church. Matt is a member of Boy Scout Troop 761 and has been an active participant for nearly ten years. Scoutmasters are Carlton Carr, Dr. Tim Fitzgibbon, Douglas Lynn, and Thomas Jordan.
The Eagle Scout is the most prestigious award offered by Boy Scouts of America. It requires, amongst many other accomplishments, the performance of a project that benefits society.
For Matt’s Eagle Project, he orchestrated the blazing of a new hiking trail in Pee Dee State Park that stretches for nearly a mile.
Matt has always been a hiking enthusiast and has taken many trips backpacking along the Appalachian Trail.
Other campouts have included river trips, orienteering weekends, climbing, skiing, shooting, fishing, etc. Troop 761 and the Boy Scouts of America pride themselves on instilling within young men a passion and respect for the outdoors coupled with important woodsman skills.
Matt is an excellent example of such a scout and possesses both a passion and knowledge of the outdoors that will make him both willing and capable of spending time on the trails for the rest of his life. The Dillon Herald would like to congratulate Matt on his accomplishments as an Eagle Scout and wish him success as he continues in Troop 761. [slide]
