The Dillon County 4-H Shooting Sports Club recently participated in two South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation Events. The SCYSF held the first 100 bird sporting clay event of the season at Harris Springs near Cross Hill, SC on December 10, 2011. The second event was a 50 skeet / 50 trap event held at Partridge Creek Gun Club near Ridgeville, SC on December 17, 2011.
Jim Carr and Jeffery Jenkins were the high shooters for the Dillon County 4-H team, each breaking 65 targets out of 100 at Harris Springs. The Team had 13 shooters competing as 5 different squads. Even with the improved shooting exhibited by some of the shooters, none of the squads finished in a medal winning position. Other shooters attending this event were Cody Gasque, Huston Hamer, Darby Hamer, Austin Miller, Myers Hamer, Cole Anders, Samuel Coleman, Dylan Ivey, Parker Lovell, John Riley McKenzie and Jack Lynn
At Partridge Creek the team took 8 shooters and competed as 4 different squads. First place in the Ladies division was Catherine Hunter Holland of the Dillon County Team. This was her first competition of the season and although she struggled with the skeet portion in the beginning she finished strong in the trap portion breaking 19 of her last 25 targets to claim first place.
Cole Gasque, also competing for the first time, came in second place in the Rookie Division.
The Sr. Advanced team of Cody Gasque, Huston Hamer, and Jeffrey Jenkins, came in third place in their division. Huston Hamer led the team in the skeet portion breaking 47 of 50 targets while Cody Gasque led the team in the trap portion of the competition shooting 44 targets out of 50. Other shooters competing in the event included, Aaron Gardner, Chandler Morrell, and Logan Cox.
The South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation sponsors youth shooting events all over the state of South Carolina. Harris Springs and Partridge Creek were the first two events for the 2012 Season. Upcoming events include Live Oak in Swansea, Mid Carolina at Orangeburg, Clinton House in Clinton, The Hermitage at Camden, Rocky Creek near Rock Hill, and State Championship finals at Backwoods in Hemingway and Mid Carolina in Orangeburg.
