A former Dillon police officer has been charged with grand larceny in reference to an incident that occurred on July 16th.
Jason Chadwick Bracey, age 29, of Dillon, turned himself in on Monday and was charged.
According to an incident report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to George Road in reference to a large crowd causing a disturbance.
They spoke with the victim, who told them that Bracey had allegedly taken his 1998 Chevrolet truck while he was at a party.
The driver of the truck allegedly “knocked over mail boxes, fences, and drove through neighbors’ yards on George Road.”
The victim said that he and his friends chased the truck and located Bracey and the truck at the end of George and Dudley roads, according to the report. The victim said Bracey then fled on foot.
Deputies located Bracey standing in the yard at the initial location on George Road, the report says. He told deputies that he did not know what was going on and that the only thing he knew was that he was accused of taking someone’s truck. He told deputies that he had been inside and had not taken anyone’s truck.
The Dillon Police Department confirms that Bracey is no longer an officer with the department.
Bracey was released on a $10,000 surety bond.
