This week’s recipe is a re-run, but it has been quite some time since we first ran it. It is one of my mother-in-law’s signature recipes and is the cake Kate requested for her birthday last weekend.

Bobbie Jean’s Chocolate Cake
Blend 2 cups plain flour and 2 cups sugar. Melt 2 sticks butter, then add 1/2 cup water and 3-1/2 tablespoons baking cocoa to the melted butter. Pour butter mixture over flour mixture, then add 2 eggs, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix well. Pour into a greased sheet cake pan. Bake approximately 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
For the icing, combine 1 stick melted butter, 3-1/2 tablespoons baking cocoa, and 1/3 cup buttermilk. Heat until well melted. Stir in a one-pound package of powdered sugar and 1 cup chopped nuts. Pour over cake while still in pan. Serve from pan.
This cake is exceptionally tasty- not to mention rich. Enjoy, and Happy Trails!
