Latta had two boys and six girls qualify for the state championship in Saturday’s Class A lower state track and field meet.
Latta’s Lawson Lloyd finished second in the 800-meter run, first in the 1600-meter run, and second in the 3200-meter run. Latta’s Jeremiah Hayes also qualified in the 3200-meter run.
In the girls meet, Latta had six girls who qualified for the state championship. Ashley Lisbon qualified in the 1600-meter run, Amber Berry qualified in the 100 and 400 hurdles, Quasheika Page qualified in the long jump, and Brandy McNair, Shakira Fleming, Katie Williams, and Diandra Tucker qualified in the 4×800 relay.
The Johnsonville High School girls track team dominated the girls meet with 12 girls qualifying for the state championship. Lamar had eight girls who qualified, Carvers Bay had two, and Green Sea-Floyds had three.
The Lamar boys had nine qualifiers and finished with 80 points, seven and a half points behind Allendale-Fairfax. The Johnsonville girls finished with 185 to put them ahead of Allendale-Fairfax by 95 points.
The Class A State Championship will be held on Saturday, May 14, in Columbia.
