Mr. Walter Strickland, 76, died Monday, January 31, 2011 at McLeod Regional Medical Center of Dillon after an illness. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church of Lake View. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Cemetery directed by Cook Funeral Home of Lake View. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Strickland was born on July 25, 1934, the son of the late Walter and Meekie Elliott Strickland. Mr. Strickland was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church of Lake View, where he served as a Deacon and on several other committees. He was also an U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Carolyn Strickland of the home; sons, Randall Lee Strickland (Paulette) of Snohomish, Washington, Walter Allen Strickland (Christie) of Lake View, Dale Wayne Strickland (Sheila) of Fork and Stevens Randolph Strickland of Lake View; brother, Jimmy Strickland (Audrey) of Marion, SC; grandchildren, Carl Lee Norman, Matthew Allen Norman, Samantha Dale Strickland, Sawyer Alan Strickland, Leah Caroline Bryant, Taylor Brianna Strickland, Troy Landon Bryant, Jennifer Leanna Strickland, and Steven Matthew Strickland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church.
