The Latta Vikings traveled to Green Sea on Friday to take on the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans and came up 10 points short of the win, 61-71.
The Trojans outscored the Vikings in all but the third quarter, with scores of 26-1, 18-14 and 18-8. Latta rallied in the third to outscore Green Sea 24-9, but wasn’t able to maintain the momentum, leaving the final score at Latta 61, Green Sea-Floyds 71.
The Trojans were led by Devante Dawkins who scored a game-high 20 points. Damian King added 18 points to the win and Derrick Collier contributed another 15. Also scoring were Nick Grate with 12 points and Deondre Collier with six.
Che’Quan Page led the Vikings with a team-high 17 points. Rajit McFadden earned 12 points, and Hy’Keem McClellan made 11. Donell Stanley and Travise Kenney each added eight points, and Jonathan Bareen added another five for the Vikings.
The Vikings record for the season falls to 1-7 in the regular season and 1-2 in Region 8-A.
Latta will next host Johnsonville on Tuesday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m. before traveling to Creek Bridge on Friday, January 21. Johnsonville will be bringing a 7-5 record to their game with Latta, while Creek Bridge is 12-3 after defeating Lake View this week.
