Rev. Henry Albert Ivey, Sr., 82, the beloved widower of Margaret Eunice Barnhill Ivey, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Rev. Ivey was born a son of Ervin Ivey and Rosa Lee Ivey Huck-Johnson on March 14, 1928, in Conway. He faithfully served as a Minister of the Gospel for over 60 years with the South Carolina Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. He accepted the mantle of ministry in 1948; received Ministerial License on Sept 29, 1951; received Ordination on July 8, 1960; and retired from fulltime ministry on May 10, 1989. Rev. Ivey with his faithful beloved wife and partner in the Ministry served the following Pentecostal Holiness Churches: Sandy Hill, Jonestown, Friendfield, Owens Chapel, Willow Creek, Spring Pond, Lake View, St. Andrews, Rock, and Holy Trinity. Upon retirement he finished his ministry as a member of the Holy Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Henry and Margaret were married on January 12, 1946, celebrated 62 years together and from this union, they were blessed with three sons, Rev. Henry Albert (Mary) Ivey, Jr. of Lake City, James Edward “Eddie” (Frances) Ivey of Florence, and Joel William (Sandra) Ivey of Dillion; two daughters, Deborah I. (Donald) Newton and Karen I. (Mike) Hogan, both of Andrews; eight grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are: one brother, Willie T. Hucks; and two sisters, Julie H. Shackleford, and Delphia H. King.
He was predeceased by his parents; his step-father, John T. Hucks; three brothers, John B. “JB” Ivey, Gentry A. “Bill” Ivey and Brookie Hucks; and three sisters, Louise I. Long, Emma Bryant, and Mary Todd.
A Home Going Celebration with recognition of Ministerial Service was 6 PM, Saturday evening, October 23, 2010 at the Andrews Church of God directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. A visitation with a reception followed in the Family Life Center immediately after the service.
A Committal Ceremony was 10 AM, Sunday morning, October 24, 2010, in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery.
