Benton sang several gospel songs before introducing the Rogers Family gospel group of Stanley, North Carolina.
After several songs and introduction of the members of the Rogers Family group, consisting of James Rogers, wife Wanda; son Paul and wife Brittney, Dr. J.L. Cook took over the podium with song and a spiritual message from Luke Chapter 10.
The sermon was entitled “Wounded.” Dr. Cook captivated the congregation with his Christian comedy wit and his interpretation of the Bible scripture as he elaborated on the many ways we can get hurt when all types of disasters enter our lives and leaves us “Wounded.” Dr. Cook stressed three important items: 1) you’re not dead, just “Wounded.”, 2) “Wounded” means help’s on the way but not from the one you expect help from, and 3) don’t get bitter…stay sweet.
There is no way to shelter your life all the time.
