The Dillon District One Board of Trustees held their regular meeting August 18 at the district office. Mr. Laird informed the board that the district would be purchasing planning time from two teachers at the high school to implement the tech coach position.
The board authorized Brandy Huggins to be listed with the bank to cash checks so money can be obtained for cash boxes at athletic events. Mr. Arnette and Mr. Perry Ford will be added to sign checks should Mr. Laird not be available.
Mr. Laird presented an updated budget based on the changes made in the way the County Board distributes money to the schools. Lake View Elementary has met AYP for two years and is not obligated to spend money on school choice. These funds are paying for teachers to reduce class size. After discussion the board approved a budget that shows a deficit of $95,000.
The board discussed work lighting work which had been done with an energy grant. Because the bid was lower than expected money remains in the grant.
The board approved replacing current gym lights with energy efficient ones where feasible.
Mr. Laird congratulated all three schools for meeting the federal Annual Yearly Progress standard for the second year in a row. Information on PASS scores was presented to the board.
