The first annual July 4th golf car parade was held in Dillon and was a rousing success as 27 golf car enthusiasts assembled at Harmon Park.
Cars of every color and style were adorned with Fourth of July decorations of every kind. Ole-Glory was well represented and displayed. Numerous cars were brought in on trailers as they were too far away to drive to Harmon Park.
A couple of golf cars arrived late but fell into the rear of the pack along the way. Patriotism was abundant along with radios blasting, horns blowing, and an occasional screaming chicken (Go Cocks). Several patriotic canines were along for the holiday ride also. The parade cruised through mostly residential areas as it stretched out for several city blocks.
The route carried the parade parallel to Hwy. 9 beach traffic as it passed in front of Main Street Methodist Church and Pope’s Furniture. They were recognized and applauded by travelers coming into the city of Dillon. Paraders then continued down 4th Avenue on past McDonalds and through the First Citizens Bank parking lot where Hwy. 301 traffic also recognized the celebrating golf car cruisers.
The revelers rode for about 45 minutes and the parade was enjoyed by all.
