Services for Alphonso “Al” Edgar Townsend were held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dothan Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home.  Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Saturday at funeral home.
Mr. Townsend, 50, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Jacksonville, NC, November 6, 1959, he was the son of Gilbert Townsend, Sr. and Bertha Campbell Townsend.  He was a member of Dothan Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Adult Class Teacher, and former Men’s Sunday School Teacher, former youth director, volunteer baseball and tee ball coach for three years.  Al loved his church dearly and was involved in many different activities and committees, he was an expert craftsman, and boat builder.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie Faye Townsend of Latta; children, Kristan Roberts, Matthew Page Townsend, and Joshua Ray Townsend, all of Latta; parents, Gilbert & Bertha Townsend, Sr. of Latta; brother, Gilbert Page (Debbie) Townsend, Jr. of Latta; grandchildren, Chaise Roberts, Landon Roberts, and Holden Roberts.
Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his “son”-in-law, Terry W. Roberts; favorite uncle, Dewey Campbell; and infant brother, James Kelly Townsend.
