The Little Church That Could

Our Pastor was away recently so the congregation was invited to attend morning worship at the nearby Oakland United Methodist Church.  That is when I thought of the child’s story, The Little Engine That Could. There are similarities between the story and its lesson  and this church.

It’s OK

She was tiny being only 5 years old but even more so when compared to her peers. Perhaps because of her size, she appeared to be shy and initially did not seem to mix comfortable with others in her new neighborhood. She now lived with her grandparents, and the family was new to the community even new to the nearby church.

Corridor Of Acclaim

When you try to compare things which are widely different, you sometimes admit failure by saying that it’s like trying to compare apples and oranges, but in this case, oranges and lemons. The lemon is JV Martin Junior High School and the orange is the new county educational showplace off US301 North, Dillon Middle.

Who’s In Charge?

In answer to the question, “What do you write about? “ I could say simply: friends since many columns fit that description, like this one. Actually it is about a new friend the son of two of my old friends.

Artistic Creativity

Almost every week day I visit the Wellness Center to walk one mile as my attempt to gain (remain) physically fit, a near impossibility for one my age. But the psychology counts. I like to think I am doing my body some good. Too, it gives me something to (little letter) herald.

An Individual Initiative

I do not know what to make of the recent political campaign quote/gaff, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.” Was the speaker saying that businesses are only successful because of what government provides and that individual initiative is secondary or was he simply and quite frankly speaking extemporaneously without the aid of his Teleprompter about his own personal ideological beliefs?
