Admin 2A new year has started and the holiday mass shopping season is over, but we all still have a certain amount of shopping that we normally do. This is a reminder that when you have this normal, everyday shopping to do, remember to shop locally when possible.
Admin 2At the September meeting of the Dillon City Council, Mayor Todd Davis laid out his plan to take the first steps to revitalize Main Street.
Admin 2A public vote. It seems like a simple concept. A board, council, commission, etc. has an issue, makes a decision, and votes on it openly in a public session. Generally, the public leaves the meeting knowing how the members voted and who voted how. This was not the case for many who attended the public hearing on the voter registration challenge by Sarita Bethea against James M. “Hoghead” Campbell in the Dillon County Council District One election.
Admin 2It is time that the City of Dillon and Dillon County come together for the sake of the Dillon County Theatre.
Admin 2It has been about two weeks now that our interim county administrator Rodney Berry has been on the job.
Admin 2In the past couple of weeks since the hurricane, we have all seen so many people step up to the plate to help serve the community and restore some normalcy to the lives of those affected by the storm. We have seen law enforcement, first responders, disaster preparedness officials, Red Cross workers, and many others very visible in our community.
Admin 2Hurricane Matthew came in with much more force than many in Dillon County expected, and while it brought out the worst in some people, it brought out the best in many others.
Admin 2On Friday, Dillon County Council and County Administrator Clay Young parted ways. It should be a sad day for Dillon County. Clay Young has probably brought more progress to Dillon County under his leadership than any other county official in recent years.
Admin 2Last week, the S.C. Ports Authority announced that they were moving forward with Inland Port Dillon. This is great news for Dillon County as many of you read last week and in today’s issue.
Admin 2For many people, Labor Day marks the end of the summer, but in the midst of barbecues and festivities, let us remember the importance of the American labor force which it honors.
