Opinion: Government Transparency

It was three years ago this month that I unveiled the state’s first Transparency Web site, giving taxpayers a central site to view itemized expenditures for state agencies. The idea was simple: People work hard for their money, and they deserve easy, click-of-a-mouse access to details about how government uses their tax dollars.

Public Cautioned Not To Fall Prey To Check Scams

Many people are well aware of receiving letters in the mail or emails that say you have won a lottery. We receive many calls and inquiries about fraudulent check cashing scams. These scams have been going on for many years and there still are many citizens who are not aware of this and who are being conned by these schemes. These are occurring in several forms including foreign lottery scams, check overpayment scams, Internet auction scams, and secret shopper scams.

NESA Acknowledges Strong Legislative Support At Reception

On Wednesday, the North Eastern Strategic Alliance (NESA), the nine county economic development organization that serves South Carolina’s northeast region, held a legislative reception in Columbia to express their collective appreciation for the support the region has received from its elected officials.
