The Dillon County Election Commission dismissed a complaint about Dillon County Councilman’s Robbie Coward’s residency at hearing on Monday morning.
After an executive session, temporary chairperson Amy Cardwell asked for a motion to dismiss for lack of subject matter jurisdiction. The motion was made by Dorothy Carmichael and seconded by Joe Moffett. The motion carried 4-0 with Cardwell, Carmichael, Moffett, and Mary Davis voting in favor.
Afte the hearing opened, Chairperson Melissa Thompson recused herself stating that she wanted to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. Amy Cardwell was elected temporary chair.
The attorney advising the commission, Butch Bowers, stated that they would hear oral arguments regarding subject matter jurisdiction to hear the protest.
Oral arguments were made by Malloy McEachin and A. LaFon LeGette, Jr. regarding jurisdiction.
After an executive session, the motion was made.
